Hello! I’m Mrs. Hegg!
I am so excited to be your First Grade Teacher here at Clearbrook-Gonvick School! We have so much to look forward to and I can’t wait to get started!
So, you want to know a little bit about me? I’m older than you so I have lots of stories to tell about myself! Maybe you would like to ask me some questions, otherwise, we might be here a long time!
Where did I grow up?
I grew up on a cattle ranch in North Dakota. Because the winter weather would get so bad and the roads would be impossible to travel on, North Dakota sent me to school in McIntosh, South Dakota. It was a school just like this one in a small town of about 600 people…just like Clearbrook and Gonvick!
How did I become a teacher?
I loved teaching at Sunday School in church when I was in High School. When I went off to college after High School; I immediately got involved in a church so I could teach at their Sunday School. Unfortunately, I never believed that I was smart enough to obtain a bachelors degree in education; school was really hard for me and I didn’t believe I could become a teacher. I decided to open my own daycare in Ada, Minnesota and became a teacher of very small children! But a flood went through our town and took my business with it. At 35, I chose to go back to College to become a teacher. I attended the University of Minnesota on the Crookston Campus; they taught me how to learn and I did really well! I even got awards for doing my best! After ten years of teaching, I decided to go back to college and get my Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction: Reading with an emphasis in Elementary Education at Grand Canyon University while I lived in Arizona!
How long have I been an elementary teacher?
This year will be my 16th year of teaching elementary children how to learn and be successful!
Am I married and do I have children?
Yes, I am married to a guy that looks just like Santa Clause! Cool, huh? I have three sons, two daughter-in-laws, and seven grandchildren; with one more on the way!
What are some of my favorite things to do?
I love watching and learning about you! Can we get started now?
Ok, I love to decorate! I love to go on walks! I love to read true stories and going to movies about historical events!
What are three unusual things people don’t know about me?
I grew up riding horses and fixing fences! I’ve driven a 18 wheeler loaded with cattle! Way before I got married, I was a travel agent for Norwest Banks and worked in downtown Minneapolis!
