New as of October, 2022: Pre-application Process for Drivers License
It is recommended that you pre-apply online for your driver's license.
This process will allow applicants to enter a significant portion of their driver’s license application online before going into a driver’s license office. This process takes about 10-15 minutes and will cut down on wait times at the driver’s license office. Students are encouraged to complete the pre-application before going to the exam station to take their knowledge test.
This feature can also be used by anyone who is renewing their MN license or requesting a duplicate MN license, in addition to anyone who is obtaining a MN credential for the first time.
Pre-application can be found on the Drivers Vehicle Services web site at: (https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/
Click on the box on the right side that states “PRE-APPLY for a Driver’s License or ID.” and follow the directions.
